DR. HOLLIS SNATCHED FOR
UNEXPECTED NEWS ANCHOR ON CNN
I actually was NOT subbing on CNN, but went to visit their studios in Atlanta for a high school reunion. I also managed to take this picture at Margaret Mitchell’s house. She wrote GONE WITH THE WIND. Howsabout that waist?
SAN MIGUEL WRITER’S CONFERENCE
GLORIA STEINEM WEIGHS IN
Dr. Hollis with Gloria Steinem
As part of my “refiring” efforts, I am studying more about alternate shorter writing forms, like essays and pamphlets. In that vein, I attended the San Miguel de Allende Writer’s Conference and joined Gloria Steinem in Mexico. You’ll learn something new about obesity in Gloria’s family. To read the longer version, as I know many of you like to hear a bit of personal shtick interspersed with words of wisdom, click on the following link to my essay GLORY, GLORY, GLORIA .
TEXAS GALS WON’T YOU COME OUT TONIGHT?
Note on the revised website, we have a new mp3 for you, BIG GIRLS DO CRY. This is a workshop I did in Dallas. I’ve always admired Texas women for their strength and honesty.
So, I am really looking forward to returning to Texas June 12, 13, and 14. I will be leading a retreat for Overeater’s Anonymous outside San Antonio.
I am hoping to attract two strong Texas colleagues to attend: Ann W. from Dallas, and Tennie McC. from Shades of Hope in Buffalo Gap near Abilene.

I’d like to alert you all to the recent passing of one of our longtime, dear colleagues, Jack Rudder. Jack was very helpful in starting my first eating disorders unit at San Pedro Penninsula Hospital in San Pedro, the port of Los Angeles. Many of you may remember him as the man who really founded and helped develop the OAnon program. This was to be a 12-step program for families and friends of overeaters similar to the Alcoholics Anonymous companion program of Alanon. Unfortunately, despite Jack’s efforts, the program faded away. It would be so wonderful if someone could take up the banner and help get that started again.

In addition to all four of my books, you can now easily order downloadable mp3s. They differ price as they differ in length. Some are one hour and others are twelve hours. You can now work the website on any tablet or phone. Apologies to those who had trouble downloading mp3s. The glitch has been fixed and by way of amends I am offering, for a brief time free downloads of a lecture to professionals discussing the essentials for eating disorders treatment. Now is the time to order. Let me know what you think.
*FREEBIE, FREEBIE, FREEBIE*. GETTING SERIOUS ABOUT OVEREATING. This is a workshop delivered to professionals teaching how to treat eating disorders. For years, audiences asked me how I would differ my presentation if it were for a professional audience or for patients and fellow sufferers. I always answer that it will be “the same lecture.” As far as overeating or starving goes, we are all amateurs finding individual paths out of the illness. No one is smarter or more capable. We all need the same information. Take a listen and let me know what you think.
BIG GIRLS DO CRY. This recording celebrates the intelligence, wit, and wisdom of overeaters. Surveys documenting attitudes of medical professionals have found that many have serious judgments of folks who can’t keep their weight managed. Some even think of us as “stupid”. This recording shows that intelligence and will power have nothing to do with it, and that we ALL NEED HELP.
CODEPENDENT COMPULSIONS. This recording emphasizes how much overeating is an aspect of relationship struggles. Our most intimate relationship is with our food. Nothing is more intimate than taking in the outside world and making it into new cells, new parts of us. It stands to reason that if we want to renegotiate THAT relationship, it will affect every relationship in our lives.
AM I EATING MY PASSION? When we truly make the commitment to give up overeating, we take a look at meaning in all our activities. As food becomes a less important part of our daily activities, we tune in to a deeper vibration and the things that motivate us and truly turn us on to life. This naturally affects our sex lives.
FAT & FURIOUS. Covers in lecture-workshop form all the ideas presented in my mother-daughter book, Fat & Furious. If we truly want to walk into recovery from overeating, we need to find a way to leave our mother’s suffering behind and make a serious commitment to live our own lives. Carl Jung described this as the process of “individuation and separation,” growing up and leaving home. Joseph Campbell referred to it as “the hero’s journey.” Accepting this life challenge is a way to celebrate and be grateful that eating is your issue.
(The book is also available on Amazon in hard copy or ebook, or you can order a personally autographed copy of any of my books at www.judihollis.com.)
GOING DEEPER. After you have investigated all the basic steps to beginning a lifelong recovery from overeating, you are ready to look even deeper into the factors which motivate you and how YOU can seek help and also make an individualized treatment program for yourself.
HOPE FOR COMPULSIVE OVEREATERS. This is the most comprehensive package consisting of twelve one-hour lectures that incorporate all you’ll need to get started. This is a lecture series presented at one of my earliest treatment centers, HOPE HOUSE in Los Angeles, and includes a training workshop in the Divine Dine,™ a mindful eating seminar. This series was initially offered by Hazelden Publishing, a leading addiction treatment center, and was one of their all-time biggest selling products. I now offer it here for you to download.

In the future, we will periodically be uploading media coverage, including radio and TV shows, and any news that’s fit to print. I will also resume recording video blogs to keep your motivation high over the summer. Let me know if you want to view these on my website or at my location on Dr. Oz’s Sharecare website.
I will be in New York City for July and August, so if you’d like to see me, call 212 222-2950.
